  • 01/ INITIAL CONSULTATION

    WHAT TO EXPECT

    01/ INITIAL CONSULTATION

A melasma consultation helps confirm whether the facial pigmentation is melasma and whether an in-clinic procedure is appropriate. Melasma can resemble post-inflammatory pigmentation, freckles or sun spots, so we assess the pattern, skin condition and likely triggers before discussing Q-Switch ClearLift Laser, home care or another management approach.

    What we assess

    • Where the pigmentation appears and whether it forms symmetrical brown or grey-brown patches
    • Your skin tone, sensitivity, barrier condition and history of pigment changes after irritation
    • Possible triggers, including UV exposure, visible light, heat, hormonal changes and certain medications
    • Previous skincare, peels, laser procedures and whether the pigmentation returned or became darker
    • Previous skincare, peels, laser procedures and whether the pigmentation returned or became darker
    • Pregnancy or breastfeeding, recent tanning or sunburn, active irritation, infection or broken skin
    • Your goals, timing and ability to follow daily sun protection and aftercare

Clinical photographs may be taken with your consent to document the baseline. If Q-Switch ClearLift Laser is considered suitable, we explain the planned area, expected sensations, temporary effects, limitations, likely review timing and costs before you decide whether to proceed. Some people may need to settle irritation or strengthen sun and visible-light protection before a procedure is planned.

Temporary redness, warmth, swelling, dryness, flaking or short-term pigment darkening can occur. Less common risks include burns, blistering, infection, scarring and lighter or darker pigment changes. Melasma can also recur, so laser should be treated as one part of an ongoing management plan rather than a permanent clearance method.

  • 02/ MELASMA PROCEDUREt

    02/ MELASMA PROCEDURE

When Q-Switch ClearLift Laser is suitable, the procedure uses controlled laser pulses to target melanin within the selected areas. Settings are chosen for your skin tone, pigmentation pattern and sensitivity because excessive heat or inflammation can make melasma more reactive. The procedure is performed section by section, with your comfort and skin response checked throughout.

    Preparation

The skin is cleansed, the treatment area is confirmed and protective eyewear is provided. Clinical photographs may be taken with your consent. Topical numbing cream can be discussed where appropriate, although comfort needs vary between patients.

    Laser delivery

The handpiece is moved across the planned areas using settings selected after assessment. You may feel warmth, tingling or a light snapping sensation. The upper lip and cheeks can feel more sensitive than other areas, so the pace can be adjusted when needed.

Selected areas may take less than 15 minutes to treat. Your full booking is longer because it includes assessment, preparation, photography and aftercare guidance.

    Immediately afterwards

The skin may look red or mildly swollen and may feel warm, dry or sensitive. Visible pigment can temporarily look darker before it settles. We check the treated area before you leave and explain which products to use, what to avoid and when to contact TAEGA.

  • 03/ Aftercare

03/ / AFTERCARE AND ONGOING MELASMA MANAGEMENT
